Game won't start...Expansion issues?

Hello fellow simmers.
Been a loooong time since i was here, still see some familiar names posting, nice to see your all still around! :)

Excuse the ramble but i always think the more info the better right...

Just returning to steam after a 2 year break so this issue might be fairly obvious to fix but i'm rusty and trying to navigate round Win10 when i've been using a Mac for 2 years is frying my brain quite rapidly here!

Initally i stupidly decided to uninstall my expansions so i was left with just the base game, there i ran into problems straight away, wouldn't load. Decided in haste to just uninstall and start with a new fresh install, this is where the problems begin... (in hindsight i should have done a cleanup before reinstall!)

The game won't start.. launcher says there is an error during startup and to check the log. (which i can't find!)
Starting from the TS3W.exe is saying something about my base game being incompatible with the exps installed. (now its saying its unable to start game but it said the ep part previously)

Now looking at my steam, its saying i have no Eps installed just the base game. I can only assume i have some leftover files somewhere thats causing issues but due to Win10 being a mess (to me at least) i can't find anything!

I really don't want to reinstall yet again..please tell me there is another way around?

Thanks for any help

  • Once it's completely uninstalled i would go to the documents panel and navigate to "this pc" in the search bar I would type in Sims and delete everything that comes up relevant to the game.
    Specifically files in these locations:
Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4
C:/ (or whatever drive The Sims was installed on) > Steam > Program Files (or Program Files x86) > Steam > steamapps > Common > The Sims 4
I am guessing the drive location admittedly as mine is installed through Origin.
I would then try and install again.
  • Hi @Coley666, Thanks for replying.

Since posting i've managed to sort it via a helpful poster and their guide over on Steam.

I had to go into the registry files and delete the expansion keys.

It's all coming back to me now! :D
