I used to hate most BG clothing but it's not all that bad. It's just that the BG stuff tends to have a really high specular map on them - AKA shine. That's my main reasoning for disliking it the most... Then I discovered this mod (Remove stencils/overlays from build/buy/CAS objects in game) by velocitygrass @ MTS a few years ago. I use it a ton in CAS and in-game for objects and it makes a difference. This is an example/image from the mods page:
As time went on and packs were released along with store content, clothing started to look better, fit sims better, and with more detailing. This is true for most games as the game artist gain experience becoming more comfortable with the design tools. I personally really like some of the later store CAS content but a lot of the packs offer great CAS content as well. I agree with @Sigzy05 that experimenting with the Create-a-Style really makes a difference. :) I get inspiration from other players.
