Help me strategize in obtaining the sets I want!

Well, I plan on buying more Sims 3 expansion packs to complete my EP collection (Island Paradise, ShowTime, Into The Future), and for Stuff Packs, I am just going to get the Movie Stuff pack (because I can make use of the 19th century outfits and Horror outfits in my Midnight Hollow world) and Town Life stuff pack (because I've read on Wikipedia that this pack has a Prep school - more gameplay content - so it may be worth the buy). As for Store Items, I think I will buy the Dragon Valley (gold edition), because with that one, I can get 1,900 SimPoints and Celtic Lands set. Then, I may use the SimPoints to get The Duke of Bows Renaissance Faire. I already have the violin premium content, but not the Archer's Gauntlet or the whole venue. I also want to get Roaring Heights gold edition, because then I can receive another 1,900 SimPoints, making a total of 3,800 SimPoints.

The Duke of Bows Renaissance Faire 627 SimPoints (This will complement Dragon Valley perfectly!)
Basketball Hoop / Level Up Collection / Man Cave Compilation 130 SimPoints
CowPlant / Killer Classics Set 182 SimPoints
Not So Routine Machine / A Mid-Century Modern Trailblazer Set 125 SimPoints
Chun Co. Teppanyaki Grill / Itadakimasu! Japanese Inspired Dining 150 SimPoints
Al Fresco Street Market 494 SimPoints (I already own the Humble Harvest Set)
Stones Throw Greenhouse 760 SimPoints (I already own the SwiftGro Gardening Station, which also comes with the Greenhouse Set, but not the Venue Lot)
Hogan’s Deep-Fried Diner Starter Kit 192 SimPoints
Skylight Studio for the Performing Arts 532 SimPoints (Meh... I can do without this venue)
It's Not Gross Public Shower Station (OWNED)
Stiff As A Board, Light As A Feather Dance Collection 415 SimPoints (must-have)
Sizzle Baby Pro Deep Fryer 140 SimPoints
Gothique Library 672 SimPoints (will this be free because I own the Premium Content?)
Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells (OWNED)
Last Venue of Amore 800 SimPoints (I want this one for my already owned Monte Vista world.)
The Titanic Toy Machine 545 SimPoints (I also want this one for my already owned Midnight Hollow world standard edition).
Solace Snugabunny Deluxe Baby Swing (OWNED, purchase price 265 SimPoints on sale)
Top o' the Tots Hairstyles and Headwear 210 SimPoints (CYS price)
Bohemian Garden 646 SimPoints

Total Estimated Price: 6,620 SimPoints (I may have to purchase additional SimPoints separately)
  • You really have to take a look at the Best of 2012 compilation as it will help you in your quest. You can get this via the Stone’s throw greenhouse. Unfortunately the CYS discount is not available for it and owning the gardening station wont reduce the price. You can get it for 760sp when it comes up on the Daily deal. 35sp more will give you the best of 2012 with CSY. This will give you Killer Classic and Itadakimasu set. The whole Haute Hacienda/Fabulous fiesta can be had after this for around 70sp more. See the few last posts in the Cheapest way to own compilations/sets/venues thread for the path to follow.
  • What is your current CYS price on the Best of 2012 compilation? At the very least, you could get the compilation free by buying the greenhouse, but there may be a slightly cheaper way. For example, the Japanese dining set is included, and you already know how to get it for 150 points. But that's not enough to complete Best of 2012, and if it turns out the cheapest path to getting the compilation is simply buying the greenhouse, then you'd end up getting the dining set for free.

Please let me know your CYS on this set too:

Completing Best of 2012 means you could complete April 2012 for less than 70 points. That would give you the deep fryer and the ice cream maker.

January 2012 is counted in a strange way: once I owned More Magic, my CYS on the compilation was 180 points. With some individual items on sale, the cost to CYS might be 63 or 68 points (depending on rounding), which is cheaper than buying the cowplant, also a part of January 2012.

The Gothique Library is not eligible for CYS—I own the spellbook too and just checked.

For the Hogan's set, I believe this is the cheapest approach, for 71 points total:

    • DD 151: 20 points (75p value)
    • DD 441: 29 points (75p value)
    • DD 583: 7 points (25p value)
    • DD 521: Hogan's set should be 15 points
    • DD 361: I Heart the 50s will be free

I don't know whether the Bohemian Garden set is eligible for CYS or not. If it is, the cheapest approach would be to buy the cheapest item in the set and then get the whole set on the Daily Deal so you get the CYS discount.

For everything else, I think you either have the right plan already or just need to buy the items outright.
  • Okay, do you own any items from Best of 2012 aside from the gardening station? You should be able to see here:

    https://store.thesims3.com/setsProductDetails.html?productId=OFB-SIM3:61336

Please let me know the CYS price as well, just in case it's calculated in a weird way.

Buying it incrementally would in fact be cheaper than buying the greenhouse; the question is how much cheaper. And then the deep fryer and cowplant become cheaper than buying them separately as well.

    Nope.

The gardening station package actually includes the greenhouse set (doors and windows), but it seems to me that the Store doesn't mark that as "purchased". It just thinks that I only have the gardening station, even though this gardening station package does come with the greenhouse doors and windows.

    CYS Price: 4,680 SimPoints
  • Okay, then here's the cheapest approach I can find for Best of 2012, which includes the greenhouse:

    • DDs 159 (57p), 444 (22p), 602 (16p), 917 (20p), and 919 (38p)
    • India Inspirations Clothing and Hair will be 95p on DD 287
    • India Inspirations Collection will then be free on DD 900
    • Chun Co. Teppanyaki Grill for 150p on DD 546
    • Itadakimasu Japanese Dining will be free on DD 489
    • Lord Vladimir's Magic Cauldron for 162p on DD 805
    • Enchanted Bundle of Dark Dealings (also includes the spellbook) will then be free on DD 19
    • Best of 2012 will be free via CYS
    • Total: 560 points

Eloquently Eclectic shares four items, worth 418p, with Best of 2012, and it costs 474p on DD 59. So if you already own other items from the set, it may end up being free; otherwise it would be 50p. If you do want the set, or you want some items from it (or want to buy sets that contain those items), DDs 433 and 468 (7p each) will cover the difference.

Buying Haute Hacienda Kitchen will then make April 2012 (and the deep fryer) free via CYS.

    • DDs 189 (27p out of 81), 243 (29/81), 298 (7/25)
    • DD 845: Haute Hacienda Kitchen (188p) will be free or 5p, depending on rounding
    • OR DDs 189 (27/81), 735 (16/50), 904 (23/68)
    • DD 845: HHK (188p) will be free
    • Total: 63 or 68 points, or 66 points

After completing Best of 2012, I had a CYS price of 180 for January 2012, which includes the cowplant. I'm still not sure how the store gets to that number, but I then bought 220p worth of content from the set and had a CYS price of 5p.

    • DDs 663 (26/90), 785 (7/25), 812 (23/68), 862 (6/25), 929 (6/25)
    • January 2012 CYS should be free or maybe 5p
    • Total: 68 points, or maybe 73
    • DD 892: Killer Classics is free
