Help old and new games crash to desktop.

I have recently come back to the sims 3 after some issues I have with sims 4. I really don't want to have to go back to sims 4. Here is the problem. I got rid of the cc in my game since the problem developed, and the only mod I have is nraas. I had been playing this one game for a while no issues, but then one day it crashed. Started it up again wouldn't even load this time, it started to act like it would but crashed before load completed. I went in saw there was a back up file, and a .bad file. I deleted the .bad file, and renamed the backup. Wouldn't load again. I gave up deleted that save and started a new save in the same world. I played that for about 6 real days off and on and then it too wouldn't load. I went into the saves folder and there was only one save a back up. So I renamed it taking off the .backup and it still crashed. So I deleted the folders everyone suggests deleting, repaired game, and still wouldn't load. Grrr. So for the third time in a few weeks I started another game in Hidden Springs which is the world I was playing in the previous game. I played it for two days, and today it didn't load just crashed. I don't know what to do. Now I can't even load a new game. Help!

Any suggestions? I can't play if my saves are literally going to crash after a few days playing. The very first save I lost was in Dragon Valley just for information.

Thank you to anyone for help.

  • If you have NRAAS Cupcake mod in your game without having the bakery set installed it will crash your game during loading every time. Solution is to either remove Cupcake mod or install the bakery set.

    Just thought of another one. There are a few mods that have extensions, For example, Master Controller and Master Controller Cheats. You'll need to check the NRAAS site for a full list. In my example, if you had Master Controller Cheats in your mods folder without the base mod, Master Controller, also being in the mods folder your game will crash.
  • Also, don't forget to limit your frame rate. Before I did that, my game crashed all the time.

    In your 'The Sims 3' folder, make certain there are no files in the CurrentGame.sims 3 folder. Sometimes when played games crash, the new information is still left in the folder. If there are any files there, throw them out and try to re-load your game. Good luck in getting this solved.
  • @Colorist40 I'm having a similar issue, but the crash log analyzer said it's due to my graphics card on my desktop. It runs fine on my laptop, but the laptop is so old the screen is actually hard to look at.
  • Thank you all so much for your help. Turns out it appears that since I hadn't played the sims 3 in about 3 years some of the nraas mods were updated and I hadn't updated them. Sigh. Still strange as for about 2 month prior to this issue, while it did crash once in a while and I did lose a couple of saves as they wouldn't load, it worked pretty ok for having those outdated nraas mods. So it didn't even occur to me it could be the issue. My son suggested I check out the mod and I saw they had some updated in 2018. I took the old out, reloaded the newer versions and so far so good.

    I will keep all these suggestions in mind if I have issues in the future which knowing this game, I will. lol Thank you all again @Karritz, @Turjan
    @mw1525 and @HillyBeth .
