I just had such a strange occurence in my game which is just too weird for not sharing it :D I'm playing this homeless sim who is trying to find someone with a big house to marry so she can be rich and famous. I usually let her stay at the fire station because there are free beds, showers and a fridge. Well, one morning, I sent her outside to catch some butterflies outside the fire station, maybe she could sell them and get some money. She caught them, but I didn't want to sell them because they looked too pretty. The same evening, there was a concert in town (I play in Starlight Shores). She went there and a rich guy she had an eye on was also there. The evening ended with that she tried to kiss him, but he rejected her. The next day, a weird glitch happened in my game. Every item in her inventory (remember the butterfly?) and every relationship my sim had were gone. From one day to another, she didn't knew anyone, much like she traveled back in time. It was so weird because every sim in town had forgotten who she was, so she could start her relationship with this guy again, and it turned out better this time! Have you ever heard of the butterly effect? The theory that a small occurence, no matter how small, can change the outcome of things? Well, that's what my sim did, more or less, this time she didn't try to kiss him and was thus not rejected. I first just saw it as a normal glitch, but then I remembered that she caught a butterfly and I just couldn't resist of thinking that this might be the coolest and most interesting thing that ever happened in my game :D Btw, she's still sometimes "traveling in time", like she was at the gym and wanted to go downstairs, she was almost down but then she suddenly appeared back at the beginning of the stairs. This game baffles me sometimes... :D

Love your story and how you could use the symbolism of the expression, turning a glitch into something good for once (though I do hope it won’t occur again...).

@Mikezumi the inventory and relationship disappeared after I needed to reset a lot with Master Controller, but my sim wasn't there at this time. It's a rotating save and I usually don't have any problems with it whatsoever, but oddly enough, when I've gone back to my original family, their relationships were a little messed up, too, but their inventories didn't vanish completely (Lucky enough I was able to set their relationships back how they should be with Debug Enabler). It's good that I don't have any bigger problems with my save though. And no, I didn't forget to save @Charlottesmom , I didn't save at first after the glitch happened, so the in game time actually has gone forward, but solely my sim was like one week behind with everything, that's the funny part :D ETA: I think the only things left in her inventory were things like a camera and her diploma, the things that are there from the start of the game anyway.

It's a rotating save and I usually don't have any problems with it whatsoever, but oddly enough, when I've gone back to my original family, their relationships were a little messed up, too, but their inventories didn't vanish completely (Lucky enough I was able to set their relationships back how they should be with Debug Enabler). I was going to say you could also make the storyline her having amnesia, or a groundhog day scenario. Reliving the same day over and over.

So I think I figured out why this weird stuff happened.

For my storyline, I found it too easy to just let her stay at the fire station because she just always had a place to sleep, shower and eat. So I thought about getting rid of the fire station. However, for my story I needed a reason for it. So I used the DebugEnabler mod to make a fire there (how ironic, I know :D ), to let it burn down so she needed to get to an other place. However, I've totally forgotten that I have a mod called "more intense fire" or something like that, so the fire would spread faster and would be...well, more intense. It took me too long for it to go out, so some sims from the neighborhood came over and tried to put it out. When some of them catched fire, I thought, "oh well, maybe I should just reset the lot with MC." I did exactly that, and this was the moment her inventory and relationship panel resetted completely. It's still weird though, considering she wasn't on the lot when I resetted it.

Oh, and @PlumDiddy, sims suddenly teleport to another location not far away is a thing that is quiet normal to happen in my game no matter which save I play, but it never had any negative impacts on gameplay, so I live with it :D It's not like they teleport to the other side of the town, only like one meter away, so it's not as bad as some might think ;)

As lovely as your story, and theory, are, I would be doing some troubleshooting if that happened to me. Did you forget to save before you closed your game? Do you "save as" and accidentally go back to an earlier save? If the butterfly and relationships just poofed out of existence I would be wary of continuing that save in case it was so badly glitched that when your sim does catch her rich man and her big house that too might suddenly disappear.
