How To Not Pudding Face

I leave a real answer to people who have much more experience than I do, but I have the feeling that you can't really do much about how kids look, or you'll have to redo them again when they grow up. Kids tend to look very samey, yes.

As @Turjan says, there's not much you can do about the way kids look. They do tend to look a little same-ish unless extreme slider positions are used and, believe me, you probably won't like what that means for their grown up state! :confounded:
Besides, if you look around in real life you will see that kids have much softer faces than grownups.

As for making unique looking sims all I can suggest is practice. Work those sliders, and I mean all of them!

As Mikezumi says you need to “work those sliders”. Learn what each of them do and experiment.

It will take time and patience but eventually you’ll get there.

Thanks all. I've had a set of sims saved from ages ago and I thought they looked great, but I stopped playing for a while and got a new computer and ended up cleaning out a lot of my mods. So those same sims now look terrible and every time I try to make new sims, they still look terrible. I think it's the shadows or lighting that is throwing it off. There's no definition.

I don't make children in CAS, unless I first make the parents and then let CAS randomise a child from their genes. I agree with Mikezumi. the children look very much alike, and when they age up to teens there's a big jump in their looks. It's difficult to see what they will look like as adults until then. I wish there was a pre-teen stage so the jump would be smaller.

The lighting in CAS is that bright that it's hard to know how the details will look in the game, at least for me. I usually have to go back and forth a few times. Different skins also make a big difference regarding how detailed or smooth sims look. The custom skin I use as default replacement makes skins look rather smooth, but I understand that this is not everyone's thing.

Find a townie whose face you like (even if its just a feature or two), save then to the bin, and tweak from there. It can be a lot easier than trying to create a unique face from scratch.

Kids noses in Sims 3 are NOT right. They're not childlike noses. They're skinnier than adult counterparts, whereas kids should have cute button, rounder noses. It drives me crazy. I have to give parents wider noses just to get kids without, what I call, "beak noses." Ugly, weird, not childlike! It's hard to give them half-decent noses and they never have cute button ones. :'( I hate the beak noses! (Some adults have similar ones, too, close to the default look.)

It's easy to make/fix adults but not the kids. *sigh*

I love Sims 3 but I want Sims 5. :(

FYI, this effect I witness might have to do with mods and such I have to combat pudding in adults. I don't know. The kids never looked right, I do know.
