How to tell gender of neighborhood/ stray pets?

How do you tell the gender of a pet that is not yours? They all look the same, and in your Sim's list of friends, hovering over their picture doesn't show gender either.

  • Yea, I would like to know that one too about the gender. As I have seen some cute cats around town that I would have liked my sim to build up a friendship and adopt. But I can never tell. Guess have to build up a high enough relationship to be able to know.
  • From my experience, you can't tell until you adopt them :? Kinda screwed up if you ask me :?
  • I think it's just realistic! I mean, when you see a random, white, fluffy cat coming towards you and you begin to pet it; you don't all of a sudden bend down and look at it's butt to know if it's a girl og a boy! :P lol

A few things, 1. I wouldn't look at it's butt to figure out it's gender, silly. :P That's a completely different part of the body. 2. Random white fluffy cat comes toward me? Yell at it to go away because my dogs are probably behind me going NUTS that there is a freaking cat coming towards me. 3. With the amount of vagrant animals running around my neighborhood, I just keep away. I love animals, but my neighbors do not understand the meaning of LOOSE ANIMALS GET HIT BY CARS. :?

Er, have you never seen an intact tom? It's... pretty obvious. Same with dogs and horses.
  • I figured it out! Once you adopt a stray, take it to the vet and it will ask for the option to either "Neuter" or "Spay" the animal. You Neuter males and you Spay females!

@Smonday, that only works in The Sims 4. This is an old thread from 2011 for The Sims 3 which doesn't have a vet career in the game.
