Of course yes, the games must be registered to the player as their original owner, or they must be able to register them now, or else that's a barrier to proceeding that way. And not everyone wants 1.69 or Origin to manage their games, in which case an inexpensive external disc drive might be a better way to go.
I hate Origin, and I'm not getting patch 1.69. In fact, in order, to be able to play Sims 3 I had to reinstall the game. The reason it took me so long to reinstall is because I stubbornly refused to get rid of my CC.
