That works both ways. If a sim out and about purchases a platter of food but only eats/shares a few servings, you can put the rest back in their home fridge for them without sending them home first so the leftovers don't go to waste or spoil in their inventory. :)
I've tried doing that, but I can't pick it up. What a waste of a platter. I also ordered a platter of food at a bachelorette party, but the bartender cleaned it up after the first serving. :(
