Is it possible to put houseboat ports on lots with different lot designations?

I'm wondering if anyone has tried making lots which are not designated as ports into ports for you houseboats. For example if it touches the water, and still has enough space, could you make a say a dive bar or a lounge double as a port for a houseboat and would that cause any problems?  Has anyone tried this?  I'm thinking that if it worked, it would be a good way to cut back on the number of lots in a world and save some space.  Port lots usually have to be kind of huge to fit the houseboats, but I think it might be manageable, since every houseboat requires at least one other lot to add to a world, it would indeed mean fewer lots.   Normally adding houseboats to a world requires two lots, unlike with other residential lots that only require one lot per house.  Houseboats require both the houseboat lot and a lot with a port on it.

I've never seen anyone try this and if its actually possible, and works, I have to wonder why

  • I changed the lot tags of one of my ports to hangout to see what would happen, and it no longer allowed me to add a houseboat after clicking on it from the edit town map view, so it definitely doesn't work.  I should have suspected that.  I guess I won't be able to do it that way.  Its kind of shame to, because it would at least slightly reduce the number of lots I would need to place in my worlds

  • Damienf519  I don't know for sure, but what you can definitely do is create a port with other activities on the lot.  If you'd like to experiment with lot types, there are two no-cc port downloads here:

Place them, make sure they're labeled as ports, and see how the other activities work (and whether inactive sims visit).  Then change the lot type to something else and see whether they still function as ports.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I think I will try something like that. There's already a world I'm working on, and although I wasn't planning on including ports that function as other venues, in it, I could change the lot designation on one of my ports to test it, after I make sure it works
