June and Liberty's 50 Foal Challenge

(( Casually coming back in 2023 to re-insert the old pictures! Also I'll hopefully be restarting this challenge after TS4 Horse Ranch comes out! 🙌 I have also elected to put the pictures into a spoiler tag to reduce page stretching. ))

Hi everyone! My name is Laura-Mae (you can call me LM if you like!) and this is my first ever 50 Foal Challenge! Actually, it's my first...anything challenge! So I hope everything goes well haha~ Um I'm just going to jump right into this, I suppose? Oh! But first! I'm going to be following the 50 Foal Challenge Rules found here: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/450566.page#6705390 as written by SIMyth!

The Sim who will be taking care of the main mare and all her little foals is June Weston.

Spoiler

She has the traits Good Sense of Humor, Handy, Daredevil, Heavy Sleeper, and Equestrian. I think you can see from the picture above that she would also be the perfect dog/cat food saleswoman. No but seriously, she grew up on a small ranch in Riverview but decided to make a name for herself when she saved up enough money. She moved to Appaloosa Plains and plans to stay there~ Funny thing is...even though she grew up on a ranch, she's never actually ridden a horse. Never too late to learn, I guess!

Our mare and the mother of all these babies is Liberty.

Spoiler

She is a Lipizzaner with the traits Agile, Quiet, and Nervous. She was bought by June when she was a foal; the original owner didn't want a nervous foal for a show-pony and didn't have time to train it out of her. June hopes to get Liberty used to jumping!

Finally, we have our guard dog Marky.

Spoiler

As you can see he is an Australian Cattle Dog! He has the traits Aggressive, Hyper, and Adventurous! He was the guard dog back at June's father's ranch, and her father insisted that she take Marky with her "for protection." But everyone knows that he just wanted to get rid of Marky! Haha, he's definitely an acquired taste.

I may edit this post later for formatting reasons, but for now this is just where I'll keep the introduction and the update links! And um...I don't really have a story in mind? But oh well; this is for fun! And I hope you'll enjoy reading it!

  • I'm keeping an eye on this thread. I just started this challenge yesterday myself. :D
  • June, Liberty, and Marky had arrived on the quaint little lot that they all called "home" now.

    Spoiler

It was fetching to begin with, and after a little sprucing up, June had made it even more comfortable for everyone.

    Spoiler

There wasn't much time to waste, though! June got ready for the long day ahead of her, starting with scattering some hay for Liberty if she ever wanted some outside her stable.

    Spoiler

Although she was really only stalling the inevitable. She'd never ridden a horse before, and she didn't know if she was really ready for it. But if she wanted to go pair Liberty up with a lucky stallion at the Equestrian Center, she had to.

    Spoiler

Of course the first step was actually...getting on.
After just a little struggle, she climbed atop the mare and felt quite confident! She could do this! Everything was going to be okay!

    Spoiler

Until Liberty actually started walking, of course.

    Spoiler

And June sat in this awkward slumped position all the way to the Equestrian Center, clinging onto Liberty for dear life.

    Spoiler

Once they were waiting to choose a stallion outside the building, a wild horse caught June's attention.

    Spoiler

She wasn't sure if it was a stallion or a mare, but it definitely reminded her that the studs at the Equestrian Center weren't the only option for Liberty. Of course, June was nowhere near ready to tame a wild horse just yet!

Either way, June had finally chosen Earth-Shaker, a quiet, aggressive, but obedient stallion who was a solid golden-orange color. Surely he promised a nice foal!

Once everything was said and done, June lead Liberty home, ready to put her to bed and then hit the hay herself!

    Spoiler

All that riding around had made the day seem so long, but this was only the beginning of her...metaphorical journey.

A great beginning. I enjoyed reading it. I think your horse, Liberty is the very first ALL white mare I've seen thus far. She is gorgeous!

    bookmarked

I'm glad you did! And thank you!! The only problem with it is that the two foals so far just look exactly like their dads, haha

Nice start. I used the same lot for mine. good luck!

It's a great lot, isn't it? Very convenient placement, too!
    Thanks!! :D
  • The next day June was looking through her wallet when she spotted that she had very little money left, and she didn't really have a job, either. Yes, getting a job would help, but then how would she take care of the animals at home? She had to get a job that had something to do with her career choice!

    Spoiler

She went over to City Hall and signed up as a self-employed horsewoman! It was a big step, and it didn't promise money anytime soon, per-say, but it would have to do. She then made a trip to the grocery store to make another two or three small purchases. "You've gotta spend money to make money," she reminded herself.

    Spoiler

Ever since she'd bought the house she'd planned on gardening, but she hoped she wouldn't have to. But this lack of money certainly called for it!

After she'd planted a few things she brushed and generally loved on Liberty and found out that her horse was, indeed, pregnant with her first foal.

    Spoiler

The days passed on at what seemed like a very slow pace, waiting for Liberty to have her first baby.

    Spoiler

June tended to her plants and such. There wasn't much else to do. But one morning, Liberty's foal was born!

    Spoiler

A little filly that June named "Bell," who was born with the traits Aggressive, Loves Jumping, and Untrained. And with traits like that, June new she was going to be a handful. A modest success. June celebrated by clapping and making a creepy face.

    Spoiler

She lost the face soon enough and continued to celebrate by brushing the little filly to bond with her a bit.

    Spoiler

And then June left the new mother to spend some quality time with her baby. June new she was going to be a great mom!

    Spoiler

It didn't last long, though. As much as June hated to separate the two, she hopped on Liberty and headed to the Equestrian Center.

    Spoiler

And while little Bell was at home wondering where on earth her mother went, Marky kept her company.

    Spoiler

Although he probably wasn't the best dog to do it (and this isn't the best picture to depict it).

Anyway, this time a stallion named "Breaker" was chosen. He didn't really have the best prospects, but he was all that June could afford. And after everything was done, Liberty made no attempts to wait on her Sim-friend. She galloped all the way back home to Bell...

    Spoiler

...leaving June to listen to two cowpoke paparazzi argue about lifting weights.

    Spoiler

Before June left she distracted the two from their argument with some much-needed silly faces!

    Spoiler
  • The next day June found out that Bell had a little biting problem,

    Spoiler

and she taught Marky to hunt.

    Spoiler

It didn't prove very useful, though. She had high hopes when she heard of a dog once digging up an entire space rock, but all Marky ever found was a snakeskin and a chip bag. Oh well.

As if things weren't looking down enough, June discovered that Liberty had been eating some of her plants! Two of them, actually.

    Spoiler

And that was a lot when you only had eight to begin with.
She had to do something else to earn money. The plants weren't growing fast enough, and June only had about 30 simoleons in her pocket.

    Spoiler

Fishing wouldn't be too bad. But she knew that the time she spent fishing she could be taking care of her horses. Liberty would be a busy mom soon and-- wait...

    Spoiler

    ...were those...

    Spoiler

BUGS! A quick fix to the problem! No matter how much money they were worth, they were at least worth something. June dropped her fishing rod and raced over to them. They didn't look very rare, but even five simoleons would help!

...If she had caught them, that is.

    Spoiler

Things were just getting worse and worse. As June trudged back home she was beginning to consider just calling this whole thing off. Maybe she wasn't fit for this challenge. She had heard it was difficult, but she hadn't expected it to be this hard! Her self-pity was soon interrupted when she spotted something.

    Spoiler

A crow! Okay, okay, okay...she could do this. She knew that would be worth a good bit.

    Spoiler

"Come on little guy," she cooed, "I just wanna catch you and sell you for a lot of moneeeey! Just help me out, please?"

    Spoiler

"YES!" A little over 500 bucks was pocketed that day, and June was definitely happy about that.

And she was even happier when she got home to find that Liberty's newest foal had been born!

    Spoiler

She was named Lola, and she was born with the traits Nervous, Hates Jumping, and Untrained. She would be even harder to train than Bell, and yet June seemed a lot happier with this one.
