here is a detailed guide how to install nvidia driver (it's for vista/win 7 - but it works exactly the same on 8.1): http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2900 . There is a picture where you can tick the "clean install" box.
You need to check those two pictures:
