Since genetic inheritance is not established until the baby is born, actually I would like to know how you are doing this. Maybe I've been missing something all this time? MC's Play With Genetics, at least the way I've always used it, works on an existing sim as the target.
Gender can be reached with CmarNYC's Pregnancy Controller mod, though. But only for single births or the first baby of a multiple, the rest can't really be reached until the other babies exist.

The two hospital overhaul mods still floating around out there are outdated and known to break games on current patch levels (anything 1.63 and above). Can't really recommend them.
