As an alternative, the Mormons developed their own style of street names/addresses. It is still in use throughout cities in Utah.
Choose the center point in town. That is 0.
Find the directions, North, South, East, West.
The first street North of 0 is named 100 North. The second street North is named 200 North, etc.
The first street East is called 100 East. And so on.
Naturally, a buildings address will be a number between streets. e.g. 323 East 200 South, or 577 West 1200 North. Normally, even numbers are on the North and East sides of a street, while odd numbers are on the South and West sides.
Its very simple to pinpoint a location in town with only the address to go by.
Just thought I would toss that out there for those that dont know. ;)
