@powers6180 - No, none of that will work for TS3. The resetsim cheat is reached a slightly different way and isn't going to fix this.
@IreneSwift - Bit late to see this thread, but I often get this issue with lots where the designated front door is behind another door/gate. I don't think there is a fix for it except to keep an eye on our sims and direct them to a location inside the house as you said instead of allowing them to Go Home generically. I see it with inactives who have gates in front of their lots as well, that's why they spend so much time standing around in front of their houses instead of going inside right away.
