Do a repair of the game
Reinstall VC++ 2005 x86
Reinstall DirectX
You say you went through and enabled game to recognize your graphics card - you don't need to do that anymore. I don't know why this myth keeps persisting.
An update years ago meant that if your graphics card isn't listed the game will automatically assume it's newer/better and default to high settings. You may have corrupted something changing that file, a wrong ' or > anywhere. So definitely do a repair on your game first through origin.
Let us know if it's still crashing after doing the above
