How Do I Make Sure I Don't Miss A Deal?
Thalia_NL told us about this very handy add-on, plug-in, extension ... whatever you want to call it.
If an item/set you want is going to come up any minute now and you can't keep constantly watching the screen, try this add-on:
For Firefox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/alertbox/?src=cb-dl-rating
For Google Chrome
http://pulsvu.com/node/1399 - This is an 'alpha' version so try at your own risk :-)

There is Store stalker is on Twitter! @TS3StoreStuff will tweet details of all the deals. Unfortunately this is not an EA automated system so the tweets are often sent some time after the deal has started, sometimes up to fifty minutes late! Even so, and especially on the first rotation of a list and for deals that don't sell out very quickly, it could be a good way of getting notice of deals.
How Do I Know What I've Already Got?
WARNING: Just because you bought the set does not mean that the Store will show that you own each item in that set! Mmdrgntobldrgn has come the rescue once again with a Page titled "Those Pesky Duplicates"
It is quite easy to see an item at a bargain price and buy it without realising you already have it as part of a set or compilation. EA will take your money and you won't see any benefit from having bought the item twice.
So ... if you need help keeping your store items organized and accurately track what you actually own, crinrict has a wonderful tool that she has made available for free, called the S3SBrowser.
It really is the most useful store item manager we've seen!
How Do I Know Which Set is The Best Value?
Not only do EA sell items in sets they create themes of related sets (like the Ultra Lounge) so they also combine sets within a theme into 'super sets' (like Critter Comforts & Forest Bedrooms) and then they create compilations mixing up all sorts of sets! How can you work out which is the best value for the items you want? Especially when they have random discounts with sales, daily deals and even special giveaways! :?: :?: :?:
You can use crinrict's S3SBrowser for this but the lovely Mmdrgntobldrgn has also created a couple of very handy tables comparing the prices and typical discounts for the compilations so you can quickly check if the prices make sense for your wallet and if they offer good value against the individual sets.

What About Single Items Not In A Set?
There are quite a few nice items, particularly clothing, that are only available individually; you will not find them in any sets. Because individual item Deals can sell out very quickly it's good to have a quick way to check whether an item can only be bought separately or whether you might get it as part of a set you plan on buying.
Once again crinrict's S3SBrowser can be very helpful for this as well but it might actually be quicker to check 2Mahawk's very handy Easy to Miss Items thread.

If an item/set you want is going to come up any minute now and you can't keep constantly watching the screen, try this add-on:
Just select the title of the current object on screen, and go to your alert inbox to add an "alert if text changes to (desired item/set name)". Warning: its case-sensitive, so its better to copy-paste than entering the name by hand.
You MUST keep the browser open but you don't need to stay on the Daily Deal page open. You can switch to another tab, and do anything else you like in the browser, just don't close it! Alerts are sound, but hearing impaired simmers can also select the message box option
It's a lifesaver!
Also: Do not select the clock element, or you'll get an alert every second!
