On this day, 12 years ago, the sims 3 launched!

I wasn't that thrilled about it. :disappointed:

Lol! I remember feeding my green, childish, vegan Sim some hotdogs at the park and then seeing her throw up later. :lol: Oops. I wanted to see what would happen.

I missed out on most of TS2 and only had the base game and University for its lifespan. Then one day I was bored at school and then remembered TS2 out of the blue and wondered what were all the EP's and so on that got released that I didn't know about it. And upon looking that up TS3 came up in the search results. TS3 was some months before release but then again it got a new release date for June 2, 2009.

I followed this fan website called SnootySims to get most of my TS3 pre-release information. The more I found out about TS3, the more excited I was. Initially, I was neutral with how the Sims looked but as time went on and more screenshots were released, the more I began to like the Sims aesthetic.

And when the game released I was so happy to play though my school computer could not handle it. Or it met minimal requirements except for the integrated video card which was incompatible. But I still played until WA because of graphical glitches and then put it on the shelf for later for when and if I could get a capable computer. Which I was absolutely blown away at how amazing TS3 actually looks than what I had came from.

The nostalgia is amazing and I still like to look at the pre-release screenshots and all the interesting videos the team made for TS3. I was obsessed and read a lot of articles and interviews as well, lol.

Talk about a blast from the past. It’s crazy how we can still enjoy and find new things in games that are decades old.

I had a dial up connection so downloading patches was an overnight job. I remember deciding I wanted to move up to Sims 2 as I'd been playing the original Sims for a few years. I decided to do a little research first and discovered Sims 3 was about to be released so I pre-ordered it but was too late to get the premium version.

On release day I was disappointed I had to wait a few more days to go and collect my copy from a local store.

Once I had the game installed it was a huge learning curve. My sims aged so fast I couldn't achieve much with them. I didn't have edge scrolling turned on so couldn't just go and explore the world without sending my active sim there first.

When I finally got my sims, the Wozneys, to have a family their son was killed at work. He was in the military career. In another game a different son moved out and had a motherless baby.

There were frustrations. Fortunately patches arrived and they fixed the military career killing sims while at work and other things were fixed. I had no clue about building and I was surprised to discover my sim houses I built, or extended, were missing roofs in many places.

Since I was on dialup I wasn't involved in the forums. Eventually I managed to get a better internet connection which made the patches easier to download and I started to visit the store and eventually got to visit the forums.

I've been playing since then. My goal is to learn it all but I discovered years ago that can never happen as there is too much in it. And there are some things I probably don't want to do. I still rarely play with vampires. Have a lot to learn about the Criminal career and evil sims, but I am trying and do have a lot of fun with my evil sims.

Then I started making videos because I didn't know anything about making videos and these days I mostly play the game to make videos. But I do enjoy making new sims. I went through a phase of mostly just building things but don't do much building these days.

I never played just the base game. I first played the sims 3 in October 2017. I was disappointed that the sims 4 wasn’t going to let us control pets, and I heard that you could do that in the sims 3. Steam was having a sale so I bought the game and most of the packs. Back then I didn’t like it and only played for a short time. Last year I got back into the game though and now I’m having so much fun!

I don't remember for sure when I got TS3 base game. I know it was not when it was first released. I think it was mid 2010 after WA and Ambitions has been released. I hadn't researched it much and only knew it was the next game in the series. I had loved and played TS2 for many many years, and owned the entire series with expansions and SPs. I figured it was just better graphics and other improvements.

I picked up a deluxe box with the cool green diamond thumb drive and got it installed. Must to my surprise, there was an open world. That seemed cool. In between constant game crashes on a computer that really couldn't handle it, I learned that I had no control at all over my town. I could have aging and progression on or off. I wanted it on or off per family but that wasn't possible. In reading the forums, I learned about the Pinstar's generational challenge. One family, for 10 generations, and suddenly I had a reason to play. I picked up WA which gave me all new content to enjoy. Someone had created a spreadsheet to keep track of challenge "points" and I was delighted. I still have that original spreadsheet and I think I made it 7 generations before I stopped playing. I loved so many details that were huge improvements over TS2: laundry, expanded gardening, wine making, laundry, gradual baby bumps that seemed more natural, on and on. But eventually I got bored of that one family and stopped playing.

Then a few years ago, I picked up TS2 again. Origin had put the entire series in my launcher - for free. I started playing and got so into it once again. Loved the control over my city. Played it non-stop for about a year. Then for some reason, I really missed those new features in TS3. I must have posted something on the forums about that and one of the Nrass gang reached out and convinced me to give it a try. They told me that is was TS2 reimagined and I could indeed play the way I wanted to play.

So, one weekend, I happened to see that the entire TS3 series was on sale on Steam. I had learned you couldn't mix CD and Steam versions of the game. So I made the leap and bought the entire thing. I think my total tab was something like $185 but it has been SO worth it. Still some bumps here and there but I am truly enjoying TS playing my way. I know full well I haven't touched 75% of the content and that's ok. I'll get to it sooner or later. I'm still working full time but gaming is my release. My recharge. So it's slow going. I have a city that started with six founding families and they are up to 3rd generation.

I did a recent review on Steam for TS3 and stated that I believe it is my favorite Sim game of all time. Here is to another decade or more of playing it! <3

12 years! Wow. I vaguely remember leaving work early to pick up a copy. The first thing I did after starting a new game was have my character go jogging. I followed behind him with the camera, just taking in the scenery. An entire town was open to me to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. It was so liberating.

Yes. I was in awe. And that's even with having every pack for TS2.

I didn't start playing until 2012 when I got the base game and supernatural as a birthday gift. The supernatural disk didn't work, but the base game was awesome and I didn't look back. I eventually got it all.

I love Sims 3! The open world, the sims' personalities and unexpected behaviors, adventuring in World Adventures and working with Ambitions. i still play. When I play Sims 4 I get nostalgic for all that Sims 2 and 3 offered in gameplay and just have to return. I enjoy Sims4 as well but it's a far more casual type of fun than I get from the others.
