Origin Error 327682:0

Hi, I uninstalled The Sims 3 a few months ago and wanted to install it today from Origin so I could play it. When I went to download it, I noticed that it said it was already downloaded (which was odd because I knew I hadn't downloaded it already) and so it had the option for 'install' next. But when I went to install it, it kept coming up with the error 327682:0 probably because even though Origin thought it had the base game downloaded, it hadn't. I looked up my problem and tried everything including logging out, reinstalling origin, clearing certain files and nothing. I just want to somehow start fresh and delete this 'download' so I have the download option again so I can make sure it actually downloads this time. Thank you!
  • When a program is uninstalled, it often leaves remnants of itself behind in the Windows Registry. These aren't files exactly, but data entries that need to be cleared if the program is to be re-installed because otherwise the remnants can get in the way. A good way to do that is to use a third party Registry cleaner such as Piriform's CCleaner (the free version is fine).

The above does assume Windows, of course. If you are working with the macOS version of Origin and the game, then things needs to be handled a bit differently.

If that's not it though, then you may need to seek further assistance on EA's Answers.HQ Origin board as this is really more of an Origin behavior issue than a game-related one.
  • The macOS doesn't have a Registry exactly, but the required cleanup of operating system Library files is a bit simpler than on Windows. So as not to steer you wrong or lead you down the wrong path, it might be better again to redirect this issue to Answer.HQ, except the TS3 for Mac forum as there are helpers who would better be able to get to the source of the problem and stay with you until you get things reinstalled properly.

  • @puzzlezaddict - LOL, we can see you're very busy over there so I didn't want to page you unless necessary and was trying to send the customer your way instead. But oof sorry, I was here with my Windows user hat on and didn't even recognize that error as a Catalina specific one. :/
  • @igazor In fairness to you, Origin doesn't recognize the issue as Mac-specific either, recycling the same error it occasionally throws for Windows users with certain permissions issues. Origin is great like that.

And yeah, I guess you could say I've been busy. Sims 3 Mac stuff is always priority number one though.
  • @igazor Thank you but I have a Macbook Pro. Is there another application I can install instead?
  • I just felt a tingling in my spine, no idea why.

@blueamber I take it your Mac runs Catalina? That's the usual error you get when trying to install Sims 3 in Catalina: something unhelpful about firewalls and running Origin as an admin. The issue is that Sims 3 is a 32-bit app, and Catalina is 64-bit only. There's no way to make the game install, let alone run.

However, EA has announced a 64-bit version of Sims 3 for macOS, to be released (hopefully) some time this year. We get non-update updates sometimes, just to let us know they're still working on it.

In the interim, your options are to play Sims 3 on a different computer, to Bootcamp your Mac (partition the hard drive, install Windows on one side), or to install Mojave on an external hard drive or USB and boot into that when you want to play Sims 3. For the second option, you'd need enough free space on your hard drive to accommodate Windows and Sims 3; for the third, you'd need at least temporary access to a Mac running Mojave or earlier. Let me know if you want more information about either of these options.
  • Oh wow I didn't even know this! Well that makes a lot of sense because I just updated to Catalina. I've looked at Bluebellflora's page explaining how to go back to Mojave and I think that's the best solution. Thank you so much!
