Origin won't download EP's

Hey!

I just re-installed the sims 3 on my new PC. I've downloaded the base game, several EP's and Stuff packs with no issue. I am now installing another two ep's but when I click 'Download' Nothing happens..I've uninstalled and re-installed Origin, restarted my PC etc. and nothing is happening.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Google only showed me results for MAC.

  • Yeah, this has been an issue in mac OS for a couple of months (although now there's a workaround), but aside from a couple of sporadic reports, it's only surfaced for Windows users in maybe the past week. So if you could try a few troubleshooting steps and report what worked, it would be tremendously helpful.

    • Clear Origin's cache: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
    • Uninstall Origin "the hard way," if you didn't before: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/
    • Run Origin as an admin
    • Disable your antivirus/firewall (temporarily, of course)
    • Enable Safe Mode downloading. The option is in Application Settings > Diagnostics.

If none of these steps work, you could try the Windows version of the mac workaround as well. If you have automatic game updates disabled (in Application Settings > Application), enable them, quit, and sign in again. You should be offered downloads of each pack you haven't installed; you can accept or decline each one separately.

If the downloads aren't triggered automatically, you may need to clear Origin's cache first, or even uninstall and reinstall Origin again—Windows doesn't have anything equivalent to the Origin reset tool for macs, so I'm not sure exactly which files need to be deleted. Anyway, when Origin starts up again and offers you the options to keep it and your games updated (and to share hardware specs), decline it, then enable it in Application Settings, then quit, then restart.
  • @dancingindior, I just reinstalled TS3 myself a few days ago and I had several of the EP's/SP's show the same thing, but when I launched the game they WERE installed...even though it was telling me they were not.

Maybe check that and see if it is the same thing happening to you.
  • @puzzlezaddict that's fantastic, thanks so much for the info. When I clicked 'repair game' it automatically started downloading the packs, so I've installed one of the two I needed. When I try install the other I will try your method, to see if it will fix it permanently.

@Stormkeep No, definitely not installed. I was patiently waiting for the universtity mascot to appear for a sim week before I realised it didn't download! Re-visiting Sims 3 made me love sims all over again! I hope you're enjoying :)
  • Hope the tips from puzzleazaddict get things sorted for you and you will be enjoying soon too!
  • @dancingindior Thanks for the update. I've been trying to figure out how to fix this for a bit, but since I have a Steam install, I can't test any of the methods myself. I'll start suggesting doing a Repair Game for the people with this issue, and hopefully it will help them as well.
  • @puzzlezaddict repairing the game didn't trigger the download the second time, so I followed the first step you recommended above. Once I opened Origin, the downloads started immediately :) Thank you!
