Critters
This technique is for those who would like to photograph wild minor pets and have the option to control the background. If you want a more natural setting, simply photograph your critters on the grass when out in the town, or while they're in their cages.
Grab yourself a critter (or two) to photograph assuming you have Pets EP. If you're struggling to find one (or more) out in the wild or the cage "stock" option doesn't allow you to purchase the ones you want, pop over to my Aviary and just take them out of the habitats.
Here I have a gecko, a chinchilla and a yellow python.

We want the critters running free on the floor so we can photograph them, moving them out of the inventory onto the floor isn't an option and releasing them into the wild will just make them disappear, so the only option I found is to let them "escape".
Click on the habitat and choose the "Take Pet" action so it's placed in your personal inventory. All the minor pets are able to escape (apart from birds, surprisingly). You just need to keep them in your pocket long enough, so since this may take a while, go about your normal sim-business around the house: read a book, build up a skill, do some gardening etc, just make sure that you're killing time on your home lot because if a pet escapes while you're out in town, there's a big chance you won't be able to recapture it.
When a minor pet escapes, you'll see it running around in circles on the floor and should get a notification announcing that pet X escaped your inventory.

If you're happy with the position of your minor pet on the floor and the floor itself as the background, power up your camera and photograph the critter. If you'd like to move your critter, use "MoveObjects on" cheat and you should be able to do so.
Don't worry if the critter suddenly "disappears" from the focus of your camera, they "teleport" around the room a lot and may even teleport outside the room. Simply go into Buy/Build mode and move it back into the room.
