Saves take a long time

hai! i might be able to help. firstly, did you have this issue BEFORE you downloaded custom worlds? if not, then it's most likely related to one of your worlds. 
secondly, which world are you playing in? the world from island paradise is known to have issues, so i would suggest moving elsewhere. thirdly, i would highly recommend lowering your graphics, or downloading the smooth patch mod to fix issues such as lag, slowness, etc. here's the link: GitHub - sims3fiend/Sims3SettingsSetter: Sets sims settings and stuff
disable all your mods, load the game again & then see if that has fixed the issue.

Is this about a new game, or after running a game for a longer period.?

try cleaning your saves with regul save cleaner :)

if you have any NRAAS mods, use Master Controller and choose Reset Everything in the settings once every sim week. Overwatch and Error Trap are also essentials.

I think I have solved my problem in a different way, I deleted a family that seemed to be at the root of the problem and also the custom world they were in.  I'll see how it goes and post another message on the forum if all goes well.  Thank you, numberoneson
