I think even non-klepto sims occasionally steal things by using an item and then placing it in their inventories. I've seen posts that said a visiting sim actually walked off with a toddler, so clearly something's weird about how the game governs these actions.
As far as the floating baby goes, I'm wondering if moveobjects was ever used to move a crib away from where the baby was placed. It seems like occasionally the "place item/baby/whatever here" part of the object stays behind. Maybe this is similar to the leftover jigs that can sometimes get in sims' way and need to be MC flushed? I don't know. But that's where I'd start looking.

[These things are always a bit quirky without NRaas SP, which I believe you are not using. Before I used SP for progression myself, I tried to have my teen (aged up to YA by then) date his former babysitter. Next thing I knew, the former sitter aged right up through Adulthood to Elder. No way that could have happened to a resident sim. It was never going to work out anyway, so I just moved on from there.
No May-December relationship for your sims, then? That's too bad. The kid might have learned a thing or two.
But in my game, no nraas SP, and no CAS of any kind until after I saw that the kid had aged up early. Plus, when I reloaded the save right before the baby was born and just let it run, the game had her at two days old the next day instead of three. So it was probably just a hiccup in the system... although there is one other possibility that occured to me. But it's not something I can test, and it is fixable with MC if I catch it in time, so I don't care all that much.
