Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I was going crazy when this happened to me today and no one else seemed to know how to fix it. But this worked for me!
Since my Sim had traveled in World Adventures I had Export files for her home and all three locations. I moved them all to my desktop and did everything else you said. I deleted my cache files and voilà! My Sim was a few saves back but I was just glad to have saved her.
No problem! I'm glad I was able to help you!

I did all this and still have the problem :(
Do I have to delete cache files too? where are they?
The cache files are the ones that I pointed out on the first post, don't erase them, but keep them on the desktop while you work out the kinks. Did you make a new sim in the same town? if you did, you just save, go back to the sims ea folder on your computer, look for the same files with the new sim, copy them, past them on the save of the sim you want to fix, then close and restart the computer and game. Then come back and in the game click on the picture with the outline of a house that's the fixed sims.
If none of this worked, put back the same files you placed on the desktop to the save you tried to fix. I don't know what else to tell you except don't give up and keep searching for a fix. There's gotta be something to fix this.
