I love Sims3 better than 4, but wanted to share what I do when I do play the doctor career in Sims4. It was too hard as is, so I edited the hospital and it made it easier to get things done. no mod needed- I don't use them.

1. Take your doctor to the lot.
2. hold down shift, control, and C at the same time to bring up the information bar\
3. Enter the three codes and then fix it the way you want:

As for the Sims3, I wish they had added:

Farm animals in a different way and really expanded farming.
I also had wanted more exercise machines/hate that we have the same old ones in S4.
Also, the retail store would've been nice as you said.

The Sims 3 was (and still is in my opinion) a great game with a lot of frustrating issues. If you can get past the fact that many computers (even modern gaming ones) have lags, freezes and crashes with it, I don't see it disappointing you game play wise.
Its like...the Sims - adventure version. The open world design makes exploring a great deal of fun and even after all these years I still find new things that I've never seen before while just wandering through the towns.

Keep in mind some do still experience performance issues though. Many of them can be, if not completely fixed, certainly lessened by the NRAAS mods. I've had very few issues with it since my most recent system upgrade, but it does still randomly crash from time to time. Just make sure to save from time to time and you should be fine.

I tried playing The Sims 4 for about two months, but my Sims wouldn't stop smiling like crazy people and it was ruining all my pictures. It's hard to play out a nuanced emotional story when, no matter what is going on in your Sim's life, they stand there like, "I can't wait to see what happens to me today in this colorful plastic Pixar world! :smiley: :smiley:" *cries!* :'( *smiling, is thrilled!* :smiley: :smiley:

I feel like The Sims 3 allows for a much wider range of stories you can play out, places you can go, photos you can take, and far more customization when it comes to building or dressing your Sims. Much more to work with if you're a creative type.

I think you're attached to the game of TS4 and you like it.

Getting a little bored with the games are normal. Take a break, take on a challenge, figure out what you Haven't done, join in a build contest on the site, try a modeling contest on the site, try a story challenge or join the story group.
There are Many things to do with or without the game if you're a little bored.

I would try the sims 3 have an acer IX axc-6036-uw13 yes it takes about 17 minutes or so to load but i have allot of cc for horses. So that is why the long load time but as for game play. To me i love it cause you have no loading screen when in the game you can run walk ride a car or horse if you have pets to any where with loading time.You can watch your sims go to the places. Sure my game lags a bit but like everyone said it does with any computer. I would try the base game first though to see what you think of it first. Also building you can make any house big small with any color decor you want.Made a 21 bedroom mansion for my sims with built on stable also the real looking worlds third an fourth pics.Third pic Sunlit Tides Fourth pic player made world Messa Grande :)

Hey there! I'm going to give my own personal account of why I prefer TS4 as of now -- after being a strictly TS3 player for years.

I bought TS3 and TS4 in December of 2015.
I mainly played TS3 only! This was due to TS4's lack of features. Also, the crazy smiling problem...
..uh, yeah.
TS3 definitely has more to offer in terms of gameplay. When I say gameplay, I mean things for your Sims to do for activity.

HOWEVER!
In November 2018, nearly three years after I bought the game, Get Famous was released. This sort of drove my curiosity into giving TS4 a serious chance.

..And, well. I'll say this now: I can't go back to TS3.

This is coming from someone who used to swear up and down that TS4 was a highly watered down version of TS3 gameplay.
In a way, this is true.

What I realized about TS4 that now puts it above TS3 , is not in its gameplay -- its in the Sims.

They are very expressive! They aren't rigid in their emotions and motions -- one of my gripes with TS3. I'm not just talking about when their interaction animations play. I'm speaking of the details. When they're idle, walking.. even sleeping -- they give little clues to how they're feeling.
From the little mutters when they are upset, to the colorful ways they express excitement and the way they speak when they are sad -- it's amazingly well done.
It's something that I could never really find in TS3.

Even though TS4 may have less content than TS3 at the moment, the way the Sims react and express themselves -- through different emotions and facial expressions -- allows me to keep interest in the game's existing features. I just think the Sims in TS4 are much better done.

I should also point out that the way I experience TS4 Sims is not through the vanilla game. Boy, I couldn't actually do vanilla TS4 sims.. :D
I use Roburky's Meaningful Happiness mod, which heavily balances/smooths the emotions system, and More Personality Please! -- which not only enables all autonomous reactions for all sims, but eliminates idle chat..

..and eliminates the constant smile issue.

So, that's my two cents! If I were to sum the games up:

If you prefer diverse things to do with your Sims, then by all means go for TS3.
If you prefer focusing on Sims' personalities and their relationships/interactions with their family/friends, then by all means go for TS4.

I opened this topic and it's clear it started in the TS4 section. I see people mentioning graphics, thats entirely personal. I love how the game looks, but the game does need a good computer to be able to play on highest settings (and lower settings are indeed ugly). When I started playing the game I played on medium settings which didn't look to well either, but I never minded back then. I don't play a game for looks. As for performance: same story. If you have a good computer, my experience is it runs as smoothly as Sims 4 for me (and that's with all packs installed).

So, that's looks and performance.

As for the game itself: Sims 3 is a game that becomes yours. It's big, it's creative, the sky's the limit where it comes to customization and there's so much to do and different ways to do it, that I can say that I still discover new things after nine years of playing (of which four years on a daily basis). The question is if you like that. Sims 3 is less scripted than Sims 4, the game doesn't take you by the hand to lead you through a script. And there is no way to tell if you'll like it. A lot of people love it, a lot of people don't. Let me put it this way, if I had missed Sims 3 in 2009 and I'd be in your shoes, the only correct answer to this question for me would have been: "Yes, buy it!" But it depends on what exactly you are missing in Sims 4 I guess. People adviced me in the past to at least try out Sims 2 (because I'd never played it when I bought Sims 3) because it was better. I've played that game now and for me that is not the case. I think we all have our favourite version and there's no telling what will be yours.

In my experience sims in 3 have more personality, because the game doesn't have the emotion system. Sims act more loyal to their traits and to the quality of their relationships and they take things very personal. If someone makes them angry, unlike Sims 4 they aren't angry with everybody, they are just angry with that one sim, and that can last a couple of days. I don't see that in Sims 4. It's true they behave less over the top than in Sims 4 and in a cartoony way I like that about Sims 4, but for me the more neutral sims in 3 work better, because I don't need the game to constantly show me strong emotions. Strangely enough those emotions lose their strength for me when they are constantly all over the place.

I have never tried TS4 but I don't think that TS3 is lacking in the personality and relationship area. I like the subtle facial expressions that show what my sims are feeling/thinking and, like interacting with high-strung people IRL, too much emotion is exhausting! Like @JoAnne65 I agree that emotions lose their impact when they are constantly in your face.

@Mikezumi Plus for me it doesn't work when the emotions aren't caused by things I can relate to. A sim who gets flirty meeting his or her lover I follow, a sim becoming angry when someone yells at him I follow, a sim being sad because someone close died I follow. In Sims 4 I find myself making up stories why my sim is looking angry, because I don't have a clue why exactly. I appreciate that can be fun too - purely in a storytelling way - but for me it only works when writing a story using pictures, not when I'm playing.

I play both. I can play Sims 4 for a few hours and have fun; I can play Sims 3, look up after awhile, and realize that 8 hours have passed and I think need to turn off the game and try to get at least a couple of hours sleep.

But with Sims 3, it was not designed for modern computers and for me, I have to do a few things to get it to run properly. I use an FPS limiter because Sims 3 does not come with one. I run both Sims 3 and 3booter (the FPS limiter I use) in Windows 7 compatibility mode -- if I don't, Create a Style lags. I use the NRAAS suite of mods, and I also use Awesome Mod, but I don't recommend Awesome for newbies to modding because the people at that website are, well, hostile and proud of it. The people at NRAAS are great, though, and incredibly helpful.

I always am confused by people saying Sims 3 sims have no emotions -- they're not in your face, and they are governed by moodlets, but they're far more subtle. For instance, if a Sims 4 sim catches her spouse cheating, she may get jealous, she may get angry, or perhaps the house will make her happy. In Sims 3, a nice atmosphere will lead to increased mood, but if a Sim 3 sim gets cheated on and knows it, no matter how high the mood is, the Sims will be mad/hurt/whatever at their partner. It's possible they'll breakup without the cheater doing a lot of work to try to make up. You definitely will not have a betrayed sim smiling and chatting or getting over it in a few hours.
