Immediately after you have the sim try for a baby, pause and tell her to "go here." If you you have the choice to run or walk, then she isn't pregnant. So have her just keep trying until the options aren't there. If she is no longer a young adult, the odds are less. if her birthday is imminent or if there are already eight sims or a lot of pets in the household, she won't get pregnant.
