Sims 3 Color Wheel

I love the Sims 3 Color Wheel. It was harder to use before I reinstalled Windows last week. Now it works much better. I can drag colors without the game freezing. I was not able to properly experiment with the feature, but now that I can use it fully, I want to make sure to learn as much as I can about it.

I have not yet figured out how to save favorite colors and swatches. And I don't have a good list of color codes and I am not entirely sure how to use those codes even if I know them.

Are there any good tutorials for using the color wheel?

Tawniplays posted a recent video that shows her using the color wheel quite a bit, but it is not meant to be a tutorial.

That's a handy website. I saved it in my favorites under Sims 3 Tools. I typically use the Hex Codes rather than the RGB to copy a color shade from one section to another. I know you can also drag and drop, but sometimes I like to keep the texture and just change the color.

@Katofhyrule12 , changing the texture will make the shine much less noticeable. I made some quick screenshots to demonstrate this. This is a dress from the Store, which is coloured just in plain colours and, to me, looks like it has an unpleasant rubbery texture:

This is what it looks like with some EA patterns from the Fabric section:

The textures are, of course, just painted on, but they make it look like light is reflected in a different way from the fabric.

This is an excellent site for custom patterns with various fabric textures - the ones on the green knitted dress in my screenshot come from there:

Thank you so much for explaining!! And those swatches are amazing!!!

It was an uncomfortable learning curve to learn to play Sims 3. But now that I am over that hump, I am continually shocked at how much more I like this game. These swatches colored with any color that I can imagine is just ... I don't have a word for it.

Wow, when you download a zip file of textures, the textures are individual files! And even better, there is a folder of individual pictures to match each individual file, so that you know exactly what each texture file looks like!

If you want to save a custom color or swatch click the icon with a folder and arrow pointing inside.

If you want to use color codes you click the # button which will be below the color wheel. There you can input RBG values for colors. To find color codes just look up the specific shade followed by RGB code. For example, if I want to use a metallic gold I look up metallic gold rbg which gives me this code: rgb(212,175,55)

So in each section you put:
    R 212
    G 175
    B 55

    And you'll get metallic gold.

Carl's Sims 3 guide has a section about the create a style tool which you can read for more information to familiarize yourself with it.

Also here's a tip. It took me way too long to figure this out but instead of individually dragging each color to whatever item/clothing you want to recolor, grab the section of the swatch with the dots on the end. (It's right at the top) You can drag the entire swatch to the object to recolor with instead of one by one.

Other than that, just play around and experiment with it yourself. It's fairly easy to use once you understand it.

Thank you for all of this!!!

I googled "pink rgb" and these webpages came right up. This is exactly what I needed! Thanks so much!

This is a lot to learn, but I love it! I cannot figure out how people were willing to give this all up. But I guess the people that had not learned to use it were not using it, so they didn't give anything up.

I am still figuring out textures. Are there any sites with custom texture swatches?

if a piece of clothing is shiny, will changing the texture get rid of that awful shine?
