It’s pretty much a staple that I always start a Sims game with 1 male sim. My favorites too tend to be males. I guess it's because of my overall playstyle. In various RPG games I almost always prefer to play as males because for some reason I just roleplay them better. I guess I more efficiently "distance" them from myself so that I'm then able to create actually exciting, well-developed characters who I easily feel immersed with. Female characters tend more easily gain "self-insert" qualities which then kind of make their characterization be all over the place or just less interesting.
I semi-roleplay in the Sims series as well and, again, it just seems to come more naturally with male characters. Sure, females might be fun to dress up with them always having way more options (unless you rely on CC... but there's also way more CC for females) but they don't inspire story/roleplay wise nearly as much.
