The pending update for macOS Catalina is not what was being asked about here, there are no plans for a 64-bit version of the game as far as we know. The update for the Mac version is to make it be able to run, in some manner, on that operating system. An EA staff member commented on Answers.HQ around three weeks ago that it is still very much a work in progress on their end. The current pandemic situation cannot possibly be helping things along there."player994;d-974366" wrote:
I hope the sims 3 also get an update for windows 64 bit as well soon.
I never knew Sims 3 wasn't for computers running windows 10 64-bit. I have never had a problem...- CororonRising Traveler

It plays on 64-bit Windows just fine. It's just that the game is 32-bit and can't use more RAM than about 3.5 GB. It's actually good to have Sims 3 on a 64-bit computer and more RAM than 4 GB, because Windows and other programs running at the same time also need RAM. - @Cororon Thank you for clearing that up! <3
I just bought Windows 10 home in 64-bit so when I read the title, I stressed quite a bit! It took me a second before realizing the difference between "sims 3 BEING 64 bit" and "sims 3 RUNNING on 64 bit". - Good News!!!
Today I was on chat support with EA, the worker I was connected to said that there would be a 64-bit update for the Sims 3 later this year! (I am on a Mac as well, trying to get my Sims 3 into a compatible computer has been hellish.)
Fingers crossed all goes well and we see it sooner than later! :)

I have a mac and I think if i knew i'd miss TS3 this much I wouldn't have updated my mac. - @shaw000 - The update that is coming later this year is to make the game run in some way, shape, or form on macOS Catalina (sheesh, I'm feeling like a broken record on some of these threads...). :)
We do not know, and EA's tech support does not know I am sorry to say, what form that update will take and there have been NO statements provided by those associated with the project as to whether the game will be 64-bit. Most of us believe that the update will be tricking the 32-bit game into running as it now does in a 64-bit only environment and it is Mac only as it addresses a problem that only exists on the macOS.
This is not the problem you are currently facing.
As per a post I see of yours elsewhere, you are not running Catalina and you are getting the Unknown Error. That can usually be solved as things are currently.

- CororonRising TravelerLots of simmers want that, but it would be a new version of the game and not just an update. :)
- I do wonder though If the developers see that there is enough demand for it, will a 64-bit version of the Sims 3 for PC be plausible?
