Sims 3 on new Laptop

I use 1920 x 1080, but please don't run your game again until one of the experts comes in here and tells you how to cap your FPS. It can fry your card to run your game with that high of an FPS. Or you can do a search of this forum as they've given the instructions on how to do this many times.

Thanks. Yes I am trying to get that frame rate capped, without much success! I am still using the W7 PC, hopefully I can get the rate sorted soon.

As you might already realize this is not optional. Besides being horrible for game performance, those frame rates have to be capped or you will be out purchasing a new graphics card (possibly a new computer) when this one burns out. The we can worry about the screen size choices.

I also use 1920 x 1080, but I do not play sims games on laptops.

Nvidia Control Panel - Create a profile for the correct executable, that's TS3.exe for Patch 1.69 but TS3w.exe (with the "w") for1.67. Set vertical sync to On or Adaptive, whichever one works, Triple Buffering to On. These settings only work in full screen mode. If that still doesn't lock things at or below the refresh rate of your monitor, most are 60 Hz so 60 fps but some can run higher, or if windowed mode is required, then we move on to Nvidia Inspector.

Nvidia Inspector - Requires the application to be downloaded and installed. It should recognize Sims 3 for you as a usable profile. Verify that Vertical Sync is forced on, it should be inheriting this setting from the Control Panel, and explicitly set the Frame Rate Limit in the same section of settings to 60 or whatever the refresh rate of your monitor is.

Many players on Win 10 must play in windowed mode to avoid screen tears (or because they want to) and find that Windowed Borderless Gaming is very helpful.

I use 1920 x 1080 on my desktop and laptop, but my laptop is 17". Don't know if that makes a difference?

The resolution I use isn't very common at least not here. You should be using your own native resolution. On a new laptop, I'm willing to bet yours is 1920 x 1080. Double check by doing a Windows search for Display Settings... then look for Resolution > drop-down list should show your native resolution with (Recommended) next to it. Make sure the computer uses this resolution then go into game settings and set the resolution to reflect the same.

Thanks. Mine is 1920X1080. But if I used that setting, the actual text is small, I know its a laptop, so the screen is smaller (17inch) but I was hoping to find a setting that displayed good graphics and good text. I see you have an nvidia card as well, so how do you cap your frame rate?

Anything that's not native resolution isn't going to fit the screen right. You can hook up the laptop up to a monitor or TV via HDMI cable. This might help with the text being too tiny in 1920 x 1080. Not really a great option if you need to be mobile with the laptop.

I use both the Control Panel & Nvidia Inspector... But you should only need the Control Panel unless it's not working for you then I'd suggest Nvidia Inspector. Have you tried following the instructions given here?
