Here is a pretty obvious Did You Know (You Probably Did) :D
If something big recently happened to your Sim, like a fire, a divorce, a promotion, then they seem to have a "Talk about..." interaction available for the next 24 hours. So your Sims have more to talk about when something actually happened.

Aliens can steal space rocks from the science lab at night.
