This is an oldie but a goodie, in case anyone hasn't figured it out accidentally yet:
You can just click on the moodlet to take care of your sim's needs. Like if they have the "hungry" moodlet and there's a fridge around, they'll go find something to eat if you click on the moodlet. :)
