I don't think you get extra credit for being early. The Sims Wiki says "although Sims are allowed to skip classes for at maximum two days, more frequent occurrences result in punishment" so do the math yourself about how much time you lost.
The constant "contribute to your degree or have your progress go down even while you sleep" mechanic isn't perfect but you can make up for lost class time by building up skills related to your major and you can also study outside of class for exams.
