- Awesome! I already have all expansions and stuff packs but it is a good deal for those looking to add to their collection.
- NikkeiSimmer8 years agoLegendDarn, I need to switch to Steam and get my last four remaining EPs. :) Always happens. They have a sale when I don't have spare money at the moment. :D Oh, well...hopefully they'll do yet another Pre-Christmas sale. :D I know, I have to get the Steam Sims 3 Base game too. So that would be $25.00+taxes...or whatever...
- I noticed this the other day and got really excited, then really confused. I'm seriously hoping that someone out there can help me out. I have the Origin version. I own all EP's and just need 3 SP's to finally complete my collection.
I've read that a person can buy the Steam version(s) and use the keys to activate them on Origin, but before I try to do this, I was hoping if someone could tell me if I would actually need to download/install the Steam version(s) in order to get said keys, or if I can get them just by purchasing (and if so, how). The only help page I could find on the Steam Support website makes it sound like a person has to actually *install* a game in order to get the key, but I don't know if that page was specifically referring to this type of thing or not. That really wouldn't make sense to me, because then I think I'd technically own two copies by only purchasing one (which would be odd and feel very, very wrong).
I'm more than willing to shell out the $5 for the base game (which I understand is a requirement) and then $15 more total for the Stuff Packs I need through Steam, but I just want to make sure that I don't actually have to download/install *any* of it because I already have everything else installed through Origin. I don't want two copies of the Sims 3 installed on my PC, obviously. I'm sad and confused that Origin/EA isn't providing the same deals, especially since it's THEIR game.
Sorry for being completely Steam illiterate.
If anyone can provide clarification on how this all works, it would be GREATLY appreciated! - mochanerd8 years agoNew SpectatorThank you so much for sharing this sale! But I am bummed since all of my Sims 3 games are through Origin. Would I have to get Steam's base game just to participate in this sale? :(

@Symb10sis , you don't need to install the Steam versions. You do need to install the Steam client program though. You'll need to log into the Steam client, go to your Library, and then click on the entry for the Sims 3 (after purchasing the EPs, of course). On the right is a link "CD KEY' which will list your CD keys for each EP you buy (and the base game). Copy to the clipboard and paste into Origin's register a game field."vochick;c-16185344" wrote:

@vochick , Yes. Steam won't sell you EPs/SPs unless you own the base game from them. You also cannot mix Steam and Origin/disk installs. However, you can purchase from Steam, register those purchases on Origin, then install everything from Origin. You cannot do the reverse though.- PalmArrow8 years agoSeasoned Ace@Nikkei_Simmer and anyone else who is trying to decide whether to get a second copy of the base game on Steam: in addition to being able to buy EPs, you will also be able to register this second base game in the store and get 1000 simpoints. So think of it as a 1000 simpoints purchase!
- @TreyNutz Thank you so, SO much! I just did it and it worked perfectly! My collection (including the infamous Katy Perry's Sweet Treats) is now complete! Even the Movie Stuff pack, which I swore to myself that I'd never buy not all that long ago...
Of course, even with my 5 month old, (nearly) top o' the line gaming PC, I was already having issues in CAS prior to these last Stuff Packs. That's as far as I've really gotten into the game this year: Sculpting new Sims to play and populate my world(s) with because I was forced to take a ~6 year break from The Sims 3 (and just about everything else) due to a series of utterly horrific events in my life. And I haven't really even installed much of my Store stuff yet. I own quite a bit of it and plan on buying more once I can afford more SimPoints - I've become a content junkie. Then there's all the custom content I have/want/need (much of which will probably end up being cooler than the stuff EA made and I got suckered into buying, lol). I've been putting off creating a persistent MasterController Blacklist forever now, but I don't think I'll even have a choice once I get everything up and running. Hurray for paying for things and then making them disappear!
Now I'm afraid that everything's just going to blow up once I actually start playing for real (beyond test runs, goofing around and losing myself in the wonderful worlds of CC and mods).
Sorry to go on and on. I'm wordy. And grateful!
Thank you again!
@PalmArrow I was so excited to complete my collection that I registered the base game without even thinking about it, lol. I did it through Origin though, rather than the Store.
After seeing your post, I immediately went to the Store and checked My Page, but it hasn't registered the fact that I bought any of the packs that I registered tonight. Do you happen to know if registering it on Origin vs. the Store makes a difference? I'd love 1,000 SimPoints (especially for $5 I had to spend anyway) and hope I didn't mess up by registering it in the wrong place. I know that they're both interconnected, so maybe I just have to wait a while until they sync or something? I hope so. I wish I'd seen your post first in case this doesn't work for me. I have almost no SimPoints left and really want Midnight Hollow Gold if I can ever afford it (I have some ideas for that place involving Katy Perry's Stuff that I hope will turn out as utterly ridiculously awesome as I have it pictured in my mind).
Thanks for taking the time let everyone (including me) know! That's very kind of you! - PalmArrow8 years agoSeasoned Ace

@Symb10sis , I don't actually know the answer to this because I only ever registered my games through the Store. Only the base game and World Adventures give you simpoints, so you could try entering the codes for these two again on the Store site to see if you'll get the points! - @PalmArrow So buying World Adventures from Steam right now for $5 will grant 1,000 SimPoints as well? I was wondering that because I remember my disk version coming with that bonus. And then being upset when later expansions didn't. If you've confirmed it through the Store redemption method for this sale today/this weekend (which I'm sorry if that's what you just did, but I just want to double-check before I spend money...no offense intended), please let me know and I'll pick it up right away!
I tried entering the code for the base game on the store after I read your post, but it said it was Invalid. Probably because I'd recently used it. Too bad I can't just keep buying it again and again to get double points. :)
Thanks again!
@suzses I forgot to thank you for starting this thread. Even though I already knew about the sale, being a "New Member" on here prevented me from posting and asking about how it worked. I contacted EA through chat about it on Friday and:
1. The guy was rude.
2. He told me that neither Steam nor Amazon were authorized retailers for EA products and tried to warn me away from buying from either of them, as though the keys were going to be fraudulent/stolen or something.
I know I read on an EA site that Amazon was authorized and got phone help from a nice guy at EA regarding a Sims 3 purchase I made through there just a couple of months ago. I don't know if Steam is technically "Authorized," but I would think so since they sure do sell a lot of EA games legitimately.
Anyway, thanks for letting everyone know about the sale and for giving me an opportunity to pose my questions. :) - PalmArrow8 years agoSeasoned Ace@Symb10sis , I did get simpoints by entering the World Adventures Steam cd key on the Sims 3 Store site, but it wasn't during this sale - it was one of the previous Steam sales, either this year or last year.
