Steam sale, all Sims 3 content (until July 9)

Steam is having its summer sale, now through July 9th. The base game and all packs are $5 each, as usual. For anyone who doesn't know, to buy a TS3 pack in Steam, you have to first own (or be buying simultaneously) the base game in Steam as well. But for the extra $5, it's still a good deal. And if you register your code on the Sims 3 store site, you should still get 1000 free SimPoints, as has always been the case.

A couple of bundles are available too, for even better discounts:

  • What a great deal! When I purchased the entire set about a year ago, I think my total came to around $135 for all of it. But of course, time go by, prices go down. But this is an amazing deal for anyone who doesn't already have it or wants to get it all on Steam

I could not help myself I just bought the rest of the series 3 on steam that I did not already own for peanuts really now I have my back up plan in case I have to ditch Origin (unless I experience the same issues with the steam game I do with origin-) :|
  • I have been waiting for this sale for almost 2 months. I got the University Life expansion and High-End Loft Stuff pack. I'm still missing Showtime, Island Paradise, Into the Future and World Adventures expansions and some stuff packs, but for now I have every expansion/stuff pack I want. :)
  • So I’m confused on how I would go about doing this if I want to just continue to keep everything on origin. There’s a couple of bundles that I’d like to have since they are so cheap but not sure how to do this. Do I have to buy the base game from steam as well or can I just buy the bundles that I want from steam and register them on origin? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can off
  • @gwtwdbss - You must own the Steam version of the base game, even if it's not installed and you have no intention of installing it, in order to purchase any EP/SPs. Of course that requirement doesn't count if the bundle in question includes the base game, but it would for those that do not. If the Steam version base game ownership requirement is not met, then the packs (or bundles that have no base game included) just won't show up as available to be purchased within the Steam client program.
  • AND...

even then, you STILL need erase every trace and spot from every nook and cranny that was from the ORIGIN version of the game.

So far, I've deleted EVERYTHING with "Sims3" on it (except my pics). I haven't deleted my "saves" folder YET - since I don't know if they would be interchangable between the two versions (please let me know) And also the "saved Sims" folder.

I went ahead and bought (but not YET installed) my STEAM version of Sims3 - with it being cheap as chips right now!

Is there anything else I might have overlooked during my Sims3 uninstallation?

I'm not installing my STEAM version, if ORIGIN is just going to hi-jack it!
  • @5782341b77vl Make sure to clean your computer's registry with a tool like Piriform's CCleaner (the free version is fine). A messed up registry, or one with duplicate entries, might cause your game not to launch.

Your Saves, SavedSims, Library, and Mods folders will transfer just fine between installs. Your Sims3Pack cc, installed into .dbc bundles in DCCache, would also transfer, I believe. Store stuff has to be redownload and reinstalled, although it's of course still free. All of this has been done by plenty of other players without any issues.

I have a Steam install of TS3, and I also have Origin installed on that drive for other reasons. Origin doesn't even "know" that TS3 is installed, and it's certainly never tried to patch or otherwise take over.

P.S. No worries @ZeeGee , threads like these were meant to be derailed. Besides, if people are considering buying the Steam version, how much work it would be to switch and what they could keep with the new install are extremely relevant questions.
  • I bought the 2 stuff packs from steam and registered them on origin and bam now the launcher isnt detecting alot of my expansions that are "installed" on origin..

I also bought a bundle that included the base game in steam bcus I was missing an EP, and registered the BG in origin to get sim points..even I already have the BG on origin..

I hate now I have to completely uninstalled and reinstall everything thro origin again, i have all the EPs on origin "installed" but some not showing in launcher..I'm not sure if reinstalling will help but I'll try..reinstalling store content too..ugh
