Sweet, Sweet Graphics >:)

I've been playing around with Reshade for the past few weeks and I've finally gotten my game to look about as good as it's gonna get. As old as this game is you can only do so much to enhance it without it looking to 'artificial'.

Anyways, I came across this one Reshade effect called MXAO, which is just Ambient Occlusion. Best way I can describe it is that it's a drop shadow that sits either behind or around objects that are in front of other objects, giving them a depth effect. I honestly don't think I can ever play this game without Reshade, especially MXAO. It really makes otherwise 'flat' looking objects pop out. I think it really brings the game to life.

Took some screenshots with and w/o the effect on, and to me the difference is really night and day.

Excuse the darkness of those, I only had the hallway light on so the shadows make the kitchen look extra dark.

Here's another example, this time you can see the effects of AO on sims.

Like I said, now that I've been playing with the effect on for a while, seeing the game without it everything looks more 'flat'.
Only downside of using this effect is that the occlusion kind of bleeds through the UI a bit, but it's nothing to bad. You can see in the pic with my sim how the shadow by his leg can be seen through the UI.

I also made a short video so you can see the effect in action...

Honestly, if you're looking to get more out of your game graphically (and you have a decent pc) Reshade is the way to go. It's really not hard to install and once you fiddle with the effects you can find something that you'll really like.
Anyway, just wanted to share this 'cool' thing that I found. :)
  • Thats awesome! And btw, what do you mean by decent PC? ? Do you think this would run well on a GTX 1060?

They mean you should have a good graphics card, decent amount of ram, and such.
What kind of computer do you have? Laptop? Desktop? Mac? and what's it specs?
If you are new to Sims 3 I wouldn't recommend installing graphical mods yet.

A 1060 would work. If your game runs well enough on its own Reshade won’t affect fps much depending on what effects you use.

It doesn’t hurt to install Reshade and test it out, there’s a few tutorials on YouTube on how to set it up.
