Switching between households, is it worth it?

Oh, I should have asked for clarification as I misunderstood. But now I'm still confused. A LN "apartment" is a fancy Regular Residential lot with the added bonus of the dark, cannot be entered NPC units. Only one resident household can live there. Where does the switching question come in again -- are the parents and children to be two different households or all one big household?
