And where do you get the seeds for your initial garden - just those that spawn when you hit level one of the skill, or do you buydebug them?
Going to university is allowed, even required for some of the skills, yes? And you are allowed to go to the ready made simu and use any of the buildings, or do you have to make your own university campus?

Prior to the revamp of the rules, which was fairly recent, you used to have the general store and your house when you started. Now you earn it and only start with your house. You can have two if you want but I don't see why you would want to.
I did it by making my founders get level one gardening also looking around town for seeds. The collection helper is very helpful if you earn and make a park or fishing spot some place where you expect to find seed spawner you can place some. Just don't go over board with 15 spawners all of them rare. I also placed some of the store content plants around town if you have them. Also the Humble Harvest Stands that came with Al Fresco Street Market You can place that on your lot or a lot that you earn and purchase fruit and veggies even items from WA, store items I think herbs as well but I haven't tested it since I've gotten Uni.
Going to Uni is allowed and yes Degrees are required to unlock some of the places if you don't have Uni that's fine just pick a few skills that make sense to that building. You do not have to make your own, and you can use all of the building available. The earning of those building is in case you want to add them to your world. Some people make community colleges in their world I'm not sure how they manage that but they do.
Suggestion go to Uni and buy books especially toddler books. Toddlers can read by them selves and earn skills from all books besides the Jimmy Sprocket book. You can also buy gardening stuff as well as bubbles and duckies. So you don't need to buy a Book Store or General Store unless you plan on selling your harvest or fish.
