The whole rich/not rich thing drives me crazy trying to avoid because I don't want to have my Sims suddenly get loads of cash. I like to work for it! And I do think Awesomemod's balancing of money from Sims moving in does have an effect.
My answer is to only marry Service Sims, so if you really want to stick with the spirit of not getting an influx of cash from marriage - you could try that. Burglar (not criminal co-workers but NPCs that rob your house), Cleaning Service, Firefighter, Mail Carrier, Pizza Delivery, Police (not co-workers, but NPCs that respond to burglaries I think), Repair Technician, Repo Man, Magician and Social Worker all are service sims and come with the minimum of cash. Some of them are pretty cute too. :-)
That's a great idea and a rule I may implement for my own game on my next legacy. I'm still within the rules if not the spirit with my founders new wife joining the family tacking on an additional 7000. I'm still in generation 1 though as the first child hasn't been born - I could start over with very little lost. I may give that some thought.
