The Money Tree was something I was unable to test in my playtesting (mainly because none of my test families managed to get their hands on it)
can someone give me some numbers/info on how the tree works, how much you get from it and how often?
For now it is allowed.
Let's see, off the top of my head:
The Money Tree grows from one of the random Special seeds that you can find in some locations, and sometimes in special cases like as a Science reward, a fishing box item, or down in the catacombs. As such, it takes level 7 gardening to plant it.
The tree (like all the special plants) is pretty slow to mature. Once you can start harvesting it, it can be harvested every two days, I *think.* Maybe it's semi-random between two and three days, but it's not very long. Each time you harvest it, you get three (maybe four? I seem to recall that it can be either) money bags from it, which are of varying quality. I don't know what all goes into how much you get - if it's just the quality of the plant and semi-randomness, or if the gardening skill of the person tending it and length of time it's been growing have an effect.
The moneybags seem to add up to around maybe 800 Simoleons each time you harvest them, for a fairly average tree, although the ones that have been tended and growing for a while can give over a thousand (I'm not sure how high it might go, really.)
As far as I can tell, the money trees never go barren like the other plants do, as long as they're well-tended. I've read (although haven't seen it first-hand) that if they're neglected though, they'll explode into a bunch of unpaid bills. Ouch.
After a while of tending them, you'll eventually find a new money tree seed nearby on the ground, and be able to plant it as well. I think each tree only just eventually drops one seed, and it may be possible to miss picking it up (not sure if they remain longer than a day), but again I'm not sure.
Anyhow, hope all that info at least helps. Basically it seems like the cash is a helpful infusion, and can definitely add up over time, but it's also not something that you grow a money tree and suddenly can build your mansion and never have another care about money again. And they have that possible drawback, if you accidentally forget about them for a bit.
I also hope they don't end up banished, since I have one that just got to the harvestable stage in my Legacy lot, and a second one currently growing. ;)
