I felt like that too, with the Sunset Valley lot. However, I mitigated it somewhat by building in one corner and then putting a fence around the house to make a sort of yard. Even though nothing's done with the other 3/4 of the lot, the fenced yard sort of makes it look okay.
And now I'm building on the other corner for my long-term home, and I plan to use the other 3/4 of the lot for a garden, fishing pond, and swimming pool. I figure if I landscape it bit by bit, eventually it'll be something nice and elaborate.
