I got to generation 3 and my founder died. And then my game froze. Grim didn't go away, all but one of my Sims were invisible, movement turned slow-motion...
I wavered between putting my back-up back in (which was hours old, I'd forgotten to save a few times) and starting again, and finally decided to start again, and on 'long' this time.
I hated the stress of having to do so much in a short period. I like to have my Sims look nice and have nice clothes, but frankly with the speed of 'normal' life, I didn't see the use in giving the toddlers better matching clothes, because I sort of spent non-stop in CAS if I tried... :)
Another thing I found out is that it's absolutely useless to try to get all three trainings done for your toddlers - if you do two out of three and do nothing else with them, just keep them in the green, you can still usually chose a trait, and if you can't the game gives you a nice one.
In fact, I'd rather have the game give me a nice trait than do all that work to be able to chose a trait and then have to make it 'random' anyway.
Same goes for school and pregnancy - if you mess up, you get a bad trait, if you do reasonably well, you get a good one, and if you keep your Sims in the green all the time, you get to pick one - with the huge chance that the dice give you something you don't want.
So, I'm re-starting on 'long', see whether that makes the game more fun and less stressful. :)
