The Sims 3 is like it’s Brand New

I finally got a laptop that allows me to play the Sims 3 and all the packs but the two I choose to not play and I own about 90% of the store content which is also installed. I could only ever play a few packs at a time with only a few select store items so like I said it is like a brand new game!

  • I just recently started playing TS3 myself last week, I so love the graphic style over TS4's cartoony look! Still hate the pudding faces of the sims tho, but with sliders and CC you can make them look pretty good.

I did install all of the world fixes for routing, NRAAS and Overwatch, which helps sooooo much! I installed the 4GB patch, which I'm not sure if that does indeed help (I have 16GB of memory with a 4GB graphics card)

I have all packs, store content, and close to 4000 patterns! I only use default overrides to fix issues like wallpaper being turned wrong, windows with a gap, things like that.

I rarely have lag and when I do if I'm in build mode, I just go to live mode and let Overwatch to it's thing, then all is good again.

But after installing some CC I went into the game and was having some lag, which was tripping me out.

After investigating and checking my packages, I found that I had several duplicates and about 8 TS2 packages in my Mods folder. Once I deleted that and tried the game, it loaded quickly and played fabulously!

    Welcome, and happy simming!
  • @Faerie197 Thanks! I should have stated that differently, I should have said "I just recently started RE-Playing TS3 ....". I create for TS4 but my love is TS2 and TS3. I'm not terribly fond of TS4 except for creating.
  • Just the "little minute details" that the crew that programmed Sims 3 put into it. Like this:

Horses actually curling up and laying on the ground to sleep.

Just the smallest little bit of detail... they worked on meticulously. I'll grant you that I don't like the fact that the 32bit coding puts a chokepoint on memory, but that's pretty much all that I don't like about it.

I wish they'd expanded on this...instead of retracting and cutting.

I've got NRAAS set so that the game is pulling NPC sims from settings in my bin. And I'm getting sims that I can actually tolerate with a little tweaking.

    as examples
  • when i upgraded from my rickity old FX 8350 (which I believe now resides in the British Museum in the 'primitive technology of ancient man' section) to a ryzen the difference in how sims ran was astounding. I used to microstutter all the time, it wasn't unbearable because i just loved the sims so much i just got used to it. And it would always microstutter, I always prioritize upgrading GPU so I've done that several times over the years since getting sims 3 but actually found zero performance increase whatsoever.

But oh boy what a difference a better processor makes, i love being able to actually watch my sims dance in a busy club without any stutters or freezes at all, just pure smoothness.

my only aim now is to keep my savefile below 3gb. I've picked up a couple of tricks to do that thanks to Igazor which is working well so far :)

I keep my screen resolution to a minimum and that helped a lot with the graphics. Sims 3 & 4 run horrendously on high resolution because they were not meant to be played on the new high resolution screens. Mine is set at the second lowest ratio to my laptop screen.
