Recently I started to disable memories in my saves, but most of the time I did play with the memories on. and yes it captured also completly boring stuff like going to the supermarket or doing homework (because it was with others) or reparing a sink but I must say to me there are a few benefits with the scrapbook:
- Even the boring memeories are capturing a term. So even if nothing special happened there, I still like to remember where my sims lived at the time, and with whom. When playing a long lifespan it's important. I like that different stages in sim's life are documented somehow.
- It gives a more "organic" playing experience. When you need to take screenshots on your own it's just pausing the game every second, calculating whether this moment will be important in the future, placing the sims at the perfect poses etc... Personally I can't avoid these stuff when the automatic memories are off and I know everything is up to me.
- I feel like the memories are sort of an unique DNA or a fingerprint of the sims. I mean, you can duplicate the same sim over and over in new saves, and imagine as if the story just continues, but when using the memories system - you can't cheat. It must be the same saving of the sim which containes everything he or she has been through. and I like this idea. It connects me more to my sims as if it's not just actors on stage that looks the same.
- I must say the memory system - being so not planned - makes some fanatastic funny moment that I could not create myself. For example - when you look over the scrapbook and see a memory from a fire that was in the house - but the picture is of your sim in bed, sleeping  (he has the heavy sleeper trait which makes it extra funny I think)
