Go ahead and build his new home, but keep his apartment as a second residence so he can visit it from time to time. He might enjoy having his new place more out of town but still also like the convenience of a place to stay over in the city when he needs to be there. (Yeah, I know Bridgeport isn't actually that big, but we can pretend).
