Turning roommates into part of the household

Question

So, I finally decided to update my game. I have a sim who is trying to have her YA son sim move back home. I wasn't focusing when I was playing and I hit 'become roommate'. So, no he lives at the house but I can't control him. I've tried interacting with him as many friendly interactions as possible but it never seems to have a 'move in' option and become a playable character. I do not own University but I have seasons and supernatural. Anyone have any ideas of how to turn him into a playable character? I can't even seem to find an option to make him no longer be a roommate.

I know I’m like 10 years too late but if anyone is still figuring it out this is how I did it. Type in testingcheatsenabled true. Then without shift clicking dismiss your roommate. Then shift click and press add to household. That worked fasted and best for me.

Put up the cheat box and type "testingcheatsenabled true" without the quotes then hold shift and click on him at the same time and it should say add to active family.

Before I read this topic, I was gonna say "marry them". But marrying your children is illegal in 50 states and Canada.

Try going to Edit Town, splitting the Sim from the household, and then merging the Sim back in.
