Hello and welcome to TS3.
Your best bet is to head over to the tech section and ask about Mac usage there. It is possible.
You also need to sort out how you are going to play the game.
Most people use Origin and version 1.69.
However you can play using disks and version 1.67. Or use Steam to do this digitally. You might want to ask the tech section about hybrid disks, most will play Mac, but not all.
If you go to NRaas there is a list of recommended mods. There is also advice on setting up mods and cc files which you might find useful.
I don't know if you are aware there is a TS3 store which sells DLC. To use this you will need simpoints which can be purchased via Origin. There are regular sales and daily deals.
The best advice is to save regularly during play and save as a different version at the end of each gaming session. This will help if you encounter the dreaded Error 12 message.
We all have our favourite packs. Mine are Supernatural, Seasons, University. Pets is a popular choice and includes a much wider selection of animals than TS4. Late Night and Showtime are similar in theme so it is down to personal preference. Generations is what it says on the packet and Ambitions gives you extra careers. Your best bet is to watch some of the Let's Plays on YouTube to give you a better idea of each pack. The two packs to be wary of are World Adventures and Island Paradise. There is plenty on both in the forum including workarounds for the glitches.
If you enjoy building and fancy building your own world there is a tool to do this called CAW. Be careful to pick the right version depending on which version of the game you are playing. There are lots of building tutorials here on the forum to help you.
I hope it doesn't take long to set up your Mac. Please let us know how you get on and of course there are plenty of people here who can help with just about any query.
