Where can we find mermaids?

There's a dive lot called Mermaid Grotto ( I believe... I've only seen it in let's plays because I haven't got the game myself. It'll be here an the 28th! )

Apparently at the Dive Lot, it's like a little mermaid hangout spot.

The first time I ever dived in the newbie dive spot (which you have access to at level 2 diving skill), I was surprised to turn around and see Triton King (mermaid king?) there. It was a good thing too, because my Sim hadn't encountered any other people before then and was very lonely (just saw a bunch rush to the beach to jump in their speed boats and zoom away). Based on that experience I think that mermaids probably randomly show up anywhere.

Jbrightman6: just saw your question. You can snorkel anywhere, which builds diving skill. Also, you can take classes at the science center. Once you're high enough level you have access to dive spots, which are marked on the map when you zoom out.

I thought this was funny, my Mermaid (the one with the blue and purple tail) was swimming around a dive area when she ran into another Mermaid that basically looked like Ariel.

Thats the exact same mermaid that I first encountered. I found it funny that the first was a Ariel look a like. But i believe her name is Mia

Supposedly she's supposed to be an Ariel look-alike lol :) The first mermaid I encountered was at my sim's resort, she was sitting and was wearing shorts and I saw the scales and freaked.

as she said I met a mermaid female same diving spot, and even saw a merman sunning on the beach. So they can be in the water or on land, and pop up everywhere. no specific spot.

Ha same here, I saw him in the Duchmen's Locker or something and I freaked, then he fell in love with my sim XD.... It was awkward.

I first saw him near one of the undiscovered islands he swam past my houseboat and a message popped up saying he and my sim Mariah(who is married) had a lot in common. then I pretty much tried to stalk him so my other sim could meet him

If you aren't finding mermaids at dive spots, and you use the Register mod, check and make sure that the mod didn't assign them all to be merchants. I was baffled that I was never seeing any mermaids, and then figured out that the mod had assigned all of them to different jobs in town.. hence they stood there all day at their jobs and never went out diving. ;P

I reassigned the jobs to different townies and now the mermaids are showing up in the dive spots.
