Which iteration did magic/witches best?

Okay, I just finished watching the video below (which I loved, nice trip down memory lane!), and now I'm really, really curious: out of the three versions of magic we've had so far, which do you like best?

If there's already a thread like this, please merge mods. I just couldn't find it right away. Thanks!

Hey, considering this didn't really have anything to do with The Sims 4 I moved it to The Sims 3 section as that's the latest game in the poll

    Thanks! :)
  • I was surprised, with her being a Harry Potter fan, that she didn't mention broomsticks in TS3 - at least one of them is specifically modeled after HP (not a Potter fan, don't hate me!) Considering TS3 is the only open world it seems like that should have made it into her mention, as well as broomstick tricks and such.
  • I wish I had played witches in TS1 and TS2. I think a friend of mine has TS1 with Makin' Magic...

There's the spellbook and the cauldron on the store. Do you guys think they are good additions? I felt there could be more things to do with them, plus, they could have more features if played with Supernatural.

I also agree that witchcraft could be a skill instead of a lifestate. I'd enjoy having a werewolf witch or a mermaid witch.

The Spellbook is a bust for me - it's ridiculously priced (10,000 I believe) and there were only a few spells that I found useful.
The Cauldron is great to put on community lots. I let Sims from other households suffer the energy hit from using it and my Sims collect the items that it produces. >:)

Why would we hate you? I love Harry Potter, literally grew up alongside the books ? and yes, I loved the brooms in TS3!
  • It has to be TS3 for me. I never played TS1 and never owned TS2 Apartment Life. It might be interesting to do this poll again once the magic pack for TS4 is released, providing it has witches in it of course :)
  • I really liked Sims 2 witches if I'm being honest. I mean, I love Sims 3 too don't get me wrong. But I feel like in comparison they're a tiny bit more boring?
Sims 2 had more dynamic witches in the sense that you chose what kind of witch you were. It also had a lot more spells to tinker with. I personally really enjoyed raising up a household of witches and having the sisters choose opposing sides. I think Sims 3 witches have really beautiful spells, I just wish there were more of them and that the spell system had more to work towards overall.
  • The Sims 3 wins for me.

I didn't play much of Makin' Magic, but gathering the reagents to create the spells felt like it took too much time.

The witches on Sims 2 were very fun and one of the reasons I really got into the game, but having to craft reagents was still there. At least with the Thrones of Light/Darkness and the evil/good witch castles, the witch could go there and craft reagents to last for several weeks. I'm not a fan of the alignment system and I miss some spells from Sims 2 on 3. Tempus Interruptus, Appello Simae and Compello Acceptus (best spell) are awesome.

In The Sims 3, the witchcraft was divided into the alchemy skill for those that like gathering reagents and the spellcasting skill itself, so I like it much more. Also, I like being able to disguise my sim as a regular sim, the different wands and traveling on brooms. The only negative part is the ridiculous time it takes to level the spellcasting skill.

I’m so nostalgic for Makin Magic! It was my favorite TS1 expansion and set the bar for everything that came after. Superstar was my second favorite, and now that we have Get Famous I feel like my Sims lives will be fulfilled once the upcoming magic expansion is released haha.
