World Adventures - Photography Skill

Hi! It's been a long time since I've been on - did you miss me? XD So I recently bought Sims 3: World Adventures. I was going to shelf it until my computer got repaired, but life has been so miserable I decided to treat myself. And at first the game was really fun; I was actually doing more than picking apples, potty-training the occasional kid and resurrecting ghosts. The level of concentration I had to use was a real shock and I was INTO IT. But upon journeying to Egypt, I became severely annoyed after looking for the underground library, which I could not find on any lot. The closest I came were two bookshelves, which did not include a photography skill book - which was my whole reason for going there. It was as if the game had forgotten to include it. I wasted my Sim's entire vacation and ended up going home (her home) empty-handed and disappointed. Well, finally I remembered a little trick; and if the photography skill book is also evading you, then maybe you should do what I did. I returned to my not-a-trailer trailer, queued the cheat screen (CTRL+Shift+C) and typed in BuyDebug. Man, I love this cheat; it saved my Sims so many times. Buy the most expensive camera near the bottom, take some pictures and your Sim will learn the skill. No vacation required. I could have saved myself so much time and frustration. And I know what you're thinking; the same thing every article I read told me. Go to the market, befriend the cashier, go to the basement. Except my Sim's Egyptian merchant and theirs were different genders entirely, so I feel like I had no choice. For those of you who have never used this cheat, I'd like to add that it can spawn the rarest things, including Glow Orbs, Deathfish, Life Fruit, Moonstones, Pink Diamonds and more; and it has helped me so much in Alchemy when none of those things would show in the neighborhood. ;)

Just keep Simming!!!

  • ...but my question is, considering how most "normal" people hold a camera...(even in the Sims), how can you even get a thumb in front of the lens? >:) Believe me, I've tried with my DSLR. :D My left thumb and middle finger are always on the focusing ring, or my left palm is cradling the lens, if I'm utilizing my 70-200/2.8.

I had to do this "on-purpose" and it was a pain-in-the-you know where...just to do it. Sims are some kind of wonders to be able to do this. That big black completely out-of-focus blotch in front of my cat's face is my thumb.
  • Just tossing this out there for those that do not know

Sometimes taking bad sim pics results in not just the thumb mistake but a gnome will randomly show up in your photo.

I've had the gnome showing up once or twice in a photo that my SS had taken...lol
  • Gotta love those photo-bomb moments. :D I used to get RL people walking in front of my camera lens when I was out shooting photos... :( And that was when I was off to the side of the walk way...with my camera on a tripod - one hand gripping the tripod at all times, because you never know when a backside-turnip will "knock over" your camera and tripod.

Sorry folks, no testing gnomes in RL...I don't have a "travelling gnome" that likes to photobomb my pictures. :D

My guess is that it's the flash powder that scares them away.

It is possible, however, that my own "skills book" on the subject is a little outdated. :)
  • Yeah...flash powder is so 1800s. :D I use the SB-600 Strobe flash, on a hotshoe, but believe me, those flashes tend to startle the heck out of the gnomes too. Even though it doesn't have the poop-your-pants bang that the old flash powder flashes had.
  • If my skill books were good enough for my beloved great great grandfather (whom I never met), then they are good enough for me. I'm not upgrading any of them. (folds arms defiantly)

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go adjust the time on the town's analog clock tower, it still keeps losing about five minutes per day, and it's awfully quiet in here so the Victrola must need winding up again. :p
